Get the conversation started in Microsoft Teams (free)
It’s easy to reach out to your friends and family with either the mini Teams window or Chat in Windows 11.
Not sure which version of Teams you're using? If you see Chat in Windows 11 from your taskbar, then you're not on the latest version of Microsoft Teams (free) and Windows 11. Learn more about how to update Teams and Windows and get started with the mini Teams window.
Make it easier to access the mini Teams window when you pin Teams to your taskbar.

Select the mini Teams window from the Windows 11 taskbar.

Select the Chat button.

In the To: field, enter the name, email or phone number of the person you want to chat with. You can continue to add people in the To: field to create a group.

Send a message to the chat and if a participant isn't already using Microsoft Teams (free), they will receive an invitation to join.

Select Chat from the Windows 11 taskbar.

Select the Chat button.
