Azure Stack HCI, version 20H2 release notes overview

Azure Stack HCI is a hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) cluster solution that hosts virtualized Windows and Linux workloads and their storage in a hybrid on-premises environment. Azure hybrid services enhance the cluster with capabilities such as cloud-based monitoring, Site Recovery, and VM backups. These services also provide a central view of all your Azure Stack HCI deployments in the Azure portal. You can manage the cluster with your existing tools including Windows Admin Center, System Center, and PowerShell.

Here on the landing page, you can find information about the primary release and any known issues regarding that release. On the left side of this page, you’ll find a list of all the updates released for this version of Azure Stack HCI.  Installing the most recent update ensures that you also get any previous updates you might have missed, including any important security fixes. On the individual update pages, you will find information about what is contained in each update and the known issues associated with that update.

For more information about Azure Stack HCI please visit Azure Stack HCI Documentation.

Unsupported scenarios

  • Performing a new installation or upgrade to Azure Stack HCI from another running operating system. The recommended option to install Azure Stack HCI is to perform clean installation by booting from installation media, as documented on Deploy the Azure Stack HCI operating system page.

Workaround

Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

The connection between the on-premises cluster and the Azure Stack HCI cloud service doesn't yet support Azure Private Link.

Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

The Azure Stack HCI cloud service is only available in

East United States, West Europe and Southeast Asia currently.

Microsoft will provide updates when additional regions become available.

If you evaluate Azure Stack HCI using nested virtualization, you might receive an error like “Hyper-V can't be installed because virtualization support isn't enabled” because Azure Stack HCI depends on virtualized-based security.

There are two workarounds available:

  • Use Hyper-V generation 1 VMs instead.

  • Inject the Hyper-V feature into the VM’s VHDX offline. From the host, run the following PowerShell command on each of the VMs that will act as Azure Stack HCI nodes while they're powered off:

Install-WindowsFeature -Vhd <path> -Name Hyper-V, RSAT-Hyper-V-Tools, Hyper-V Powershell

When logging on interactively into the operating system, the welcome screen that reads “Welcome to Azure Stack HCI” is not localized in Czech, Hungarian, Nederland, Polish, Swedish and Turkish (locale codes cs-cz, hu-hu, nl-nl, pl-pl, pt-pt, sv-se, tr-tr).

Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
