In Microsoft Teams (free), you can sync the contacts from your mobile device or sync your Outlook.com and Skype contacts to make it easier to find someone. After you have synced your mobile device, your contacts will also be searchable in Microsoft Teams (free) on desktop and web as well.

To sync Outlook.com and Skype contacts in Windows 11

  1. Open Microsoft Teams (free):

    • From the mini Teams window in Windows 11, select the button The open Teams button in Mini Teams. to open Microsoft Teams (free).

    • From Chat in Windows 11, select the Open Teams Teams open Teams in Windows 11 button.

  2. Select Settings and more Teams settings and more button, then choose Settings Settings button.

  3. Select People Teams new people button.

  4. Under Sync contacts, select the Manage button.

  5. From there, you'll have the option to sync From Outlook.com or From Skype.

Notes: 

  • The Outlook.com and Skype accounts you are trying to sync must be associated with the same Microsoft account you used to sign in to Microsoft Teams (free).

  • If you don't have the expected contacts after syncing, you may have multiple Microsoft accounts. If you have more than one account, you can be signed in to Microsoft Teams (free) but not with the correct account where your contacts are stored. Make sure you're signed in to the correct Microsoft account.

To unsync Skype contacts

  1. Open Microsoft Teams (free):

    • From the mini Teams window in Windows 11, select the button The open Teams button in Mini Teams. to open Microsoft Teams (free).

    • From Chat in Windows 11, select the Open Teams Teams open Teams in Windows 11 button.

  2. Select Settings and more Teams settings and more button, then choose Settings Settings button.

  3. Select People Teams new people button.

  4. Under Sync contacts, select the Manage button.

  5. Under Already synced, select Remove next to From Skype to unsync those contacts.

Note: Contacts you've added, imported, or synced with your personal Microsoft Account are always available in Teams. You can add, edit, or remove contacts from your Microsoft account by navigating to the People app in Outlook.com.

Sync Google contacts with Outlook.com

Microsoft Teams (free) syncs contacts from your personal Microsoft account. 

To view your Google contacts in Microsoft Teams, you can transfer them from Google Gmail to Outlook

Import your contacts

After you import your Google contacts, they'll be available in your Outlook contact list and the Microsoft Teams (free) mobile and desktop app.

Note: It might take up to 24 hours for your contacts to appear in the Teams app after syncing them with Outlook.com for the first time.

To sync device contacts

  1. Tap your profile picture or the More More button button.

  2. Tap Settings, then tap People.

  3. Switch Sync my device contacts to on.

    Note: If you are advised to Allow Access to Contacts, please follow the prompts on your device.

  4. After they are synced, your contacts will be available to start new chats and calls with from mobile and desktop.

To unsync your contacts, you can switch Sync my device contacts off at any time. This will also remove those contacts from Microsoft Teams (free) on desktop and web.

Google contacts

Google contact sync is no longer supported in the Microsoft Teams (free) app. However, you can sync your Google contacts to your Microsoft account.

Add Gmail to Outlook

After you connect your Google account in Outlook your contacts are searchable in Microsoft Teams (free) on Desktop for Windows 11 and mobile. You can also invite your contacts to Microsoft Teams (free) if they aren't Teams users.

Tip: Your contacts will be visible on Microsoft Teams (free) in people suggestions when you initiate a chat or add an attendee to a meeting.
