Windows 8.1 will no longer be supported as of January 10, 2023. If you have files on a Windows 8.1 computer, this article can help you move those files to a new Windows device.

Your browser does not support video. Install Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flash Player, or Internet Explorer 9.

On your Windows 8.1 PC

  1. Open your internet browser and go to www.onedrive.live.com.

  2. Sign in using your Microsoft account. This is the email address or phone number you have associated with Microsoft products like Windows, OneDrive, and Microsoft 365.

  3. Select Upload.

  4. Select Files or Folders.

  5. Then select the items from your Windows 8.1 computer that you want to move to a new PC.

  6. Once the items are uploaded, they will appear under My files.

Note: If you edit these files again on this Windows 8.1 PC, you'll need to upload them again to OneDrive.

On your new Windows PC

Follow the prompts to set up your new Windows PC.

Once you’ve completed setup and signed in using the same Microsoft account as before, your files should be synced to your new device and accessible when you want them—even when disconnected from the internet.

To check that your files have synced to the new device, open File Explorer and select your OneDrive from the left pane. Your files should be shown in the OneDrive folder.
