Create links to notebooks, sections, pages, and paragraphs in OneNote for Windows 10

It's easy to create and share links to specific parts of your notes — either to the entire notebook, to particular sections or pages, or to a specific paragraph on a page. Such links can be useful whenever you want others to find related notes quickly, or when you want to create an interactive table of contents that others can use to navigate your notebook more easily.

You can also add the link to an Office document or to an Outlook email so that you can share the contents of your notebook.

Copy and paste a link to a notebook

  1. Right-click the notebook name that the link should point to.

  2. On the shortcut menu, click Copy Link to Notebook.

The link to the selected notebook and the title of the notebook are copied to the Clipboard.

  3. Right-click the location on the page that is to contain the link, and on the shortcut menu, choose Paste.

OneNote inserts a link that, when clicked, displays the target notebook.

Tip: To quickly return to the previous page after you tap a link, tap Back Back arrow in the top left corner of your OneNote window.

Copy and paste a link to a section

  1. Right-click the tab of the section that the link should point to.

  4. Right-click the location on the page that is to contain the link, and on the shortcut menu, choose Paste.

Copy and paste a link to a document or email

You can paste a link to a OneNote notebook, section, page, or paragraph so that it appears in an Office document or email.

  1. Move your cursor to the left edge of the notebook, section, page, or paragraph you want to link.

  2. On the shortcut menu, click Copy Link. The Copy Link command will vary depending on what you're copying.

The link is copied to the Clipboard.

  3. In the Office document or email, click the location where you want the link.

  4. Right-click the same location, and on the shortcut menu, click Paste > Keep Source Formatting.

OneNote inserts a link that, when clicked, opens the OneNote notebook, section, page, or paragraph. The link will include both a link to the notebook for those who have OneNote installed, and link to a web view that opens the notebook in OneNote for the web.
