GroupMe enables you to participate in groups via SMS. If you are added to a GroupMe group by SMS, you can use these commands in the group:
#help - Sends you a text with the basic commands you might have forgotten.
#add [name] [phone] - Follow the "#add" command with a person’s name and phone number to add them to the group. For example, #add Pat 5551234567 will add the number (555) 123-4567 to the group with the name "Pat".
#list - Shows you a list of the names of everyone in your group.
#topic [topic] - Changes the name of a group. For example, text #topic Study Group to set your group name to “Study Group.”
#name [name] - Sets your name so that others know who you are. For example, #name John will change your name to John. This command only changes your name for that specific group.
#mute | #unmute - Mute and unmute groups. Text #mute to stop receiving messages from this group. When you’re ready to start receiving messages again, text #unmute .
#remove [name or number] - If you are the owner of a group, send the group "#remove," with the name or number of the group member you’d like to remove, and we’ll remove them from the group.
#stay - You'll only receive 12 messages when you're first added to a group, and will need to text the #stay command to each group you want to continue receiving messages from.
#exit - Automatically removes you from a group. If you are the group owner, you cannot leave the group – but you can delete the group entirely by texting #delete.
Note: Using GroupMe over SMS is currently supported within the United States only.
